ABOUT KUNSTKASERNE
The Kunstkaserne in Berlin Johannisthal has been open since August 1, 2012 on the top floor of the former barracks complex. Visual artists and musicians have found a home for their creative work here. There are currently still a few empty studios, of a total of around 100 rooms. Most of them are between 10 and 30 square meters.
If you are interested in a space, please contact Ms. Tuende Pasztas. Of course, studio prices have adjusted somewhat since 2012 and are no longer as low as mentioned in the video above.

HISTORY
The Kunstkaserne building was constructed in connection with the opening of the Johannisthal airfield in 1909. The location quickly developed into a center of the German aircraft industry. "In April 1912, the "Deutsche Versuchsanstalt für Luftfahrt" (DVL) was founded on the initiative of Count Zeppelin and took up residence in Adlershof.
In the course of the First World War, aircraft production in Johannisthal expands. Albatros-Werke is the largest producer, followed by Rumpler and LVG. The site is the most important center of German air armament. Between 1914 and 1918, approximately every third German military aircraft was manufactured by the Johannisthal companies and their subsidiaries. "*
From 1914, the building was used as barracks for the Wehrmacht (German Armed Forces), then by the Red Army until 1951.
The building then housed employees of the GDR Ministry of State Security until the fall of communism.
Deutsche Telekom was the tenant from 1993 to 1999.
The former barracks then stood empty for over 10 years.
In 2012, the artist Juliana da Costa José founded the "Kunstkaserne" as a studio space on the upper floor of the building.
The lower floors are currently used as offices.
